I think it is a natural and something I have been toying with for a while. I just finished an updraft charcoal gasifier,which, if we're on the same page, would actually be a part of the 2 stage gasification.
This was actually designed in a different way years ago before Rocket Stoves were ever thought of. It was called the Brandt Double Zone Producer. I can't find any patents on it though. Rock on, you're definately on the right track.
What's keeping me from building what you are talking about is that to make it practical you would need a batch rocket stove, and this design seerms a bit unwieldy for a vehicle, buyt the concept is correct.
