Interesting thinking. 1 quite important point is missing thus far, though. FUNGI are the a main nature's decomposers of cellulose. They, as well as the process, are vital for the health and stability of the whole / (eco-)system and health and wellbeing of individual, alike. Trying to by-pass this important component of the whole-system design would come at a great energy cost and dire consequences.
The least is you need varied diet, with vitamins, oils, aminoacids, minerals, etc., not only carbs/calories.

Brilliant start to finish job, very fruitful systematic approach!
Hope the RMH works well for you for many cozy winters ahead.

I thought I posted a reply earlier but it hadn't registered.

If you get a chance to share your custom bypass, that will be much appreciated.
I can find around from the pre-made ones only either ventilation tube or flue types which do not fit tightly and/or deform above 50C

Thanks for prompt reply.
That's a very fine looking RMH! Great job from plans to finish. Hope it performs to your satisfaction.

Will be very much appreciated if you can share your custom made bypass valve.
Have been perplexed, if not stumbled at it. The available around (ventilation) ones are from pretty thin tin, which the manufacturers say will deform above 40-50C.

I found your ideas for working through the practicalities and their visual representations/ drawings/ quite informative.

Since it's already a few months past, at the onset of winter, did you get around the complete the project?
Have you found a supplier for the bypass valve/unit in EU ?

You can go about via a natural succession by planting shrubs,
or/and accelerate it by propagating the respective microorganisms via the techniques of the Korean Natural Farming, or JADAM.
