I'm also new to Bokashi, and have been exploring different methods of composting both household waste and the prolific amount of dog waste from my 2 giant Irish Wolfhounds. I've been trying hot composting, which has been scientifically proven to kill not just coliform bacteria, but many intestinal parasites such as giardia and ascarid eggs (roundworms/hookworms/whipworms). I am so far dissatisfied with hot composting since I can never guarantee even heat penetration throughout the enclosure. Is anybody aware of any studies showing the response of these patients to the low pH of Bokashi fermentation? When used to digest cat waste, has it been shown to kill cryptosporidium, a common feline pathogen, or have they only looked at coliform bacteria?
I bought a bag of Bokashi bran to start out with, but think I'll try making my own bran in the future.
