Oh, and a few others I didn't see mentioned, these folks all have smaller nurseries but cool stuff:

Fiddlehead Nursery in Kimberly ON; great selection of edible perennials but doesn't ship http://fiddleheadnursery.ca/visit-us/

Plump farms in ON; Yellow horn and some other neat stuff https://plumpfarms.com/

Floreren Farms in NS for nut seedlings (and herbs!) https://www.florerenfarm.com/

https://silvercreeknursery.ca/ We grow fruit and nut trees We focus on heritage and hard to find varieties of grafted fruit trees, but are also enjoying growing seedlings of preferred cultivars, as well as berries and some edible perennials. We have three test orchards each about an acre, with well over 700 cultivars (at last count) of fruit trees and berries, plus all the lovely understory bits and bobs. The first orchard is more conventionally planted, though we are adding understory edible and pollinator friendly plants every year, the second is laid out in Stefan Sobkowiak's NAP style, and the third is just 2 years old and a mix mash of all sorts.

We ship throughout Canada, except CFIA has regulations for common species of fruit trees entering BC (malus, pyrus, prunus, etc).

They are in Ontario but do ship to BC.

Why are there only a few who do?

It's because the Rocky's provide a natural barrier, and not all the pests and diseases that are present in ON (for example) are in BC. I know many nurseries just blatantly ignore CFIA's mandates on this, and I've questions our local agent about it... there is the option to have the trees fumigated but it is a very costly process. Just boils down to the nurseries values I suppose, it's possible for pests/disease/viruses to inadvertently spread even when plants appear fine with a visual inspection (hence why we have various Asian or European pests etc), but CFIA only takes legal action is an outbreak is caused. Politics shmolitics, such is the way of things! So some nurseries just take the risk, and some don't.

If there are any species you are interested in but can't find a source, we are always looking for new things to add to our repertoire, and we have plenty of mother plants working away in the background. Don't hesitate to get in touch with us - if you do, contact us (see our website) mention this post, we'll do our best to help you out!

Cheers,
Steph
