For me, here recently, it's all about surviving the hottest days of the year and getting ready for fall

Hello!
Yes definitely all about surviving the HEAT down here! I will say we have been fortunate as it hasn’t been as brutal as last summer!

Well an update… still a single stay at home mom, I work from home currently, researching and planning my fall/winter garden, still haven’t met anyone.

Grew up south of Houston and I still own a house close to Galveston. About to go work further south down towards padre Island. I’m 39 and plan on building my own self sustainable compound here within the next 10 years. Just looking for the right person to do it with. Please excuse my picture as I hate taking selfies. I’m very spiritual and love fishing, gardening, hunting and camping. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. I’ll send you a moosage with my contact information as well. Take care

What a small world! My parents were born and raised in Galveston! Grew up going to the island every summer at least, but haven’t been in a few years!

Hello,
Your life sounds wonderful and exciting! I live in Texas, and only get to live off grid when I go out to the Ranch for hunting and camping! How wonderful to live a natural life and love to read and play chess. I haven’t ever played chess but enjoy reading. I love to cook and garden, grow food. Would love to learn lots more!
Would you be open to someone who already has children? I have a 1.5 year old daughter.
I’m 28.

Hello! So I built some raised beds in my backyard and have some carrots in them. I filled the beds with soil and peat moss. I have already sown the seeds and they are about 1-3 inches tall. I have noticed they have been the same height for about 3 weeks and realized that I possibly did not loosen the soil enough. Can I loosen it underneath them without disturbing them?
I’m in central Texas and they’re getting sunlight and water. I have not done any fertilizers though since it’s new soil in there.
Thanks in advance!
Hello all,

I grew up in Austin, Texas. It has good things, but so very packed with people now. Currently living a bit farther south, but dream of becoming self sufficient and having a homestead and no longer needing to rely on grocery stores. I grew up hunting and fishing with my father as well as gardening. I currently grow food in my backyard as well.
I am a spiritual person and enjoy noticing the many synchronicities the universe shows me. I am 28, white, light brown/ reddish hair and light brown eyes, I have a daughter who is 1. I am happy being a single mother but would like to find love again. I do not want to get on a dating site that feels extremely risky and people on this site share similar values.
Thank you guys for all the great advice!
Hello,
About to plant some squash in my raised beds here in central Texas. Last time I had squash I had a serious problem with vine borers. I am wondering if anyone has any tips as to how to avoid them or keep them away, or what plants would possibly deter them? Thanks in advance!
Hi,

I think your lifestyle sounds very appealing. I live in Texas, grew up hunting and fishing with my Dad and have gardened at home but have always hoped one day to end up away from the city and to have a homestead. I’m 27, I have a 1 year old daughter. Would be interested in getting to know each other
Hi! I am new to this site. I’m 27. I’ve had a dream to build a homestead in Alaska for several years now. I’m born and raised in Texas, grew up hunting and fishing and gardening with my dad. I do have a 1 year old daughter and I’m a single mom. Life in the city is just too busy and things are taken for granted. Would love to learn to live self sufficiently, and build a homestead!
