Well, if contributors would spend anytime trying to actually save $$$ this would be a much better read... Gutters are actually fairly cost effective. It is the accessories that pile up the cost. Especially, if you are trying to do a capture system (the adapters that go from square to round, reducers, hangers, extenders, joints, endcaps, etc).
I would still bet a small local sawmill and a wooden custom system would be beautiful, convenient, and cost effective as well... But, that is if you have basic woodworking skills and tools.
Of course a redesign of the angles/slopes even direction of flow is also a consideration if you have basic carpentry skills.
I have begun this journey. 1" x 6" x 12' at my local sawmill is a mere $6 (they are actually more like 14' to allow for imperfections of the ends). This allows for endcaps and joint overlays (other various scraps make great birdhouse material) LOL
