Hello Permies!

I have begun to work towards achieving one of my lifelong dreams; building a beautiful climate resilient village near my hometown of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.

I want to start off by saying that even though I’ve spent countless hours imagining how this place would be, I recognize I am a complete novice to permaculture, and that I have much much to learn. Nevertheless, I’m willing to learn, and to collaborate with others.

I have about 600 acres of land that has not been worked on for over 35 years. As far as I know, wells have not been built there before.  The land is about 40 miles south of Ensenada, and just about 14 miles inland.

My current strategy is to create a nonprofit dedicated to testing climate resilient permaculture systems for housing and feeding a small village with the most minimal, or zero negative environmental impact. These systems could be used to help house some of the asylum seekers and other folks living in informal settlements on the US-Mexico border. The size of the village would be determined by what is feasible considering the size of the land, the geography, etc.

I’ve been so intrigued by permaculture and would love to hear some ideas from you all. Especially regarding water. Here is a link to a video of the general area of the property. I believe it doesn’t include the top of the mountains, but definitely a portion of it, perhaps halfway or 1/3 of the way up.
