Comfrey is not a nitrogen fixer but it is a great green mulch and compost activator, soil aerator. How about pigeon pea(Cajanus Cajun)? Great nf and mulch resource. Ants? Try a sticky barrier around trunk so they can’t climb tree like tanglefoot
