I had a very nice pair of John Deere sweatpants show up in one of our auction closet lots.
Sadly,  they had been shortened and were at a very awkward length for me. ( I will use capri/hobbit length pants but I don't like the look in sweatpants)

The rest of the fit was pretty good but adding a different fabric on the cuffs alone looked unbalanced.
I also decided to remove the large tag on the inside of the back since it was heavy and rough.
I found a suitable flannel shirt to use as a donor. I was able to get enough from just the top of the arms to make new cuffs. I also took the pocket and added it to the right side. The scraps gave me some backing to also make the tag into a patch.
A bit of machine sewing and they are all done!

Altering sweatpants is a great DIY project—add fabric to lengthen, taper legs for a slimmer fit, or adjust the waistband for comfort. Repurposed materials like flannel can add style and uniqueness to your design.
