Hi all! I’m new here as of today. I had ducks years ago. I had two Muscovy females and one male and it wasn’t long until that number tripled and tripled again and so on. I chose that breed because I read they were good bug eaters. I didn’t know they were such an invasive critter! I loved them, my neighbor not so much. They were never in a pen and lived in the pond and roamed the farm. Flyers so they roosted in trees and were pretty smart about predators. However after reducing the flock and a hard rare cold winter in N Ga when the pond froze over and they couldn’t escape predators as well, I became duckless, other than one girl who flies from pond to pond in the area and visits home a few times a year.
Long story short, I’m getting back into ducks. Going to order a couple of different breeds and I will be raising them from ducklings (the Muscovies were grown when I got them) and am asking how, when feathered out and having been kept in a pen, how to teach them after being let out to return to the pen to be closed up at night. Thank you for any advice!
