If only I had known about the SKIP community and this badge BEFORE I founded the community garden I did... I understand the difficultly level, but if there's no leniency allowed, I suppose I'll just have to build a second one
Apologies if this isn't the proper place; I'm new to the community but am assessing and gathering the proof I already have for BBs I've already completed prior to committing to my PEP2 journey. Since the garden I built meets all other parameters, but is less than a 1/2 acre in size, I wanted to discuss its potential to count towards an Oddball Straw Badge.
Happy to provide more details, along with photos and videos should this be welcomed.. Essentially, I remediated an abandoned city easement that had turned into a 12' tall invasive blackberry bramble, into a fully wood-chipped, 10-plot community garden (expanding more soon) adjacent to a community art collective. It began as a solo effort-- I had to hand-cut the fence open to even get inside, then used a mini-excavator to scoop out about 4,000 sq ft of the bramble; and over 2-3 years it grew into more than 20 individuals helping the continued development by putting down wood chipped pathways, building raised garden beds out of old pallets, and hosting workshops and events.
Though I have my own documentation for aspects of this that cover other BBs in different categories (hosting a work party, branding a location with a sign, founding a seed bank, making native seed balls to raise money, building a mason house, etc.) I would love to learn more/provide more info to discover if my larger efforts could be applied towards an Oddball Straw badge. (Happy to build a 2nd community garden that meets these parameters in the future haha)
