"Certain solar projects" mean grid-tie systems in our service area (Bitterroot Valley and Missoula).  PV stands for photovoltaic, and USB is United Systems Benefits (funds); everyone who is a NWE (that's Northwestern Energy) customer pays ~50 cents or so on every bill, that goes to different stuff.  Some goes to assist low income folks pay bills in winter, some goes to promote energy conservation for homes/businesses, and some go to wind and solar grants.

A kilowatthour is a thousand watts.  A kilowatthour will run ten 100W light bulbs for one hour, or one 100W light buld for 10 hours.

Hope this help!

Hi Folks:  I've been asked to post this here, so here you go (of special interest to Northwestern Energy customers).

“Get a 2 kilowatt grid-tied solar powered system installed on you home for as little as $3,910!”

We have the ability to get USB grants (on a first come, first served basis) from NWE for certain solar projects, in our installation area.  Combined with our state and federal tax credits, a photovoltaic power system has become much more affordable!  Check out our two example systems and let us know if you are interested in receiving a personalized quote from one of our system designers.

Fixed roof mounted system:  This system will utilize roof a roof mounted array using American-made Schott solar modules.

Typical cost breakdown:

Equipment total = $9,952

Installation Estimate = $1,980

Project base cost = $11,932

Minus $3/watt USB grant = -$5940

Minus $500 State tax credit = -$500

Minus 30% federal tax credit = - $1648

Total Project cost = $3,844 -- That’s ~$1.94/watt!!!

On average, this system will produce ~6.5kW per day or ~196kW per month with the array oriented due south and mounted flush on a 6/12 roof with un-obstructed sunlight.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Solar tracking pole mount system:  Here is another system that utilizes a solar tracker for better annual production:

Equipment total = $12,764.00

Installation Estimate = $2,080.00

Project base cost = $14,844

Minus $3/watt USB grant = -$5940

Minus $500 State tax credit = -$500

Minus 30% federal tax credit = - $2521

Total Project cost = $5,882 -- That’s ~$2.97/watt!!!

On average, this system will produce ~8.5kW per day or ~254kW per month with the array oriented due south with un-obstructed sunlight.

Disclaimer:  your project may cost more due to site specifics or unforseen circumstances, and the freight rates are estimates to a dock or commercial drop point with forklift in western Montana.  Your destination's freight costs may differ.

If your utility provider does not offer such incentives, you can still get the state and federal tax credit. Call our system designers at 406-777-4321 or 4309 for more information.
