for those of you who have replied have you tried this in Arizona?

This might be a problem because they say you need to survey the land to make sure that there isn't timber or minerals or even oil. This land needs to be useless other then agriculture use.

I heard about this Desert land act and I was wondering if anyone knows anyone or is either in the process of claiming or already claimed some land. I have been looking into it and there is land still available. they say I need to get the land surveyed. I am trying to find any land available that might already be surveyed in Nevada. They say getting the land surveyed can be pretty pricey. I don't have enough money for that. Most of this land is considered useless to conventional farmers but in the case of permaculture we could turn a desert landscape into a oasis. Any advice helps thanks in advance.

I found a piece of land in NW Nevada high desert type I will have about 40 acres or so to play with.

#1 I will only be able to take care of the land in the summer what are hardy trees that I could plant this summer and not have to worry about dying off before the next summer?

#2 Understanding my work schedule is this possible to only work 2 months a year and develop the land? After four years or so I would be able to work year around, but until then.

#3 besides Swaling all the land what are the most important steps to guarantee success. Food production is not important initially it more about recreating the scared landscape.

I have been in China for the last six months. Since I have been here I have been searching for a place to practice some permaculture. I am not experienced at this so I thought some early practice could help with preventing future disasters. So want me to use a peice of their land to see what permaculture is all about. The plot is maybe 75 feet wide and over 300 feet long. It is between a road and netting for a driving range I will attach pictures later. What I have questions about is what to plant and how and when. I would be most pleased with anyone could send some ideas my way. I have seen videos and read books about permaculture but some of the important things i either missed or didnt see were how to plant and what. The climate is a lot like Kansas the city is called Pinghu about a hour an a half west of Shanghai. More info later

thank you

Thank you your post was helpful. I wish there were more posts like about irrigation. I use to work on a golf course and I know how harmful pests can be, so that article was helpful in that sense.

So I wrote a post a day or so ago asking about sustainable golf courses. No responses SO I thought maybe I would repost. I was thinking in a climate like Nevada if I were to swale and develope a food forest slash golf course if would actually work Obviously the work on the course would be more then the forest. I think its possible I am just wondering if kentucky bluegrass will work or if I have to use something else. Also what about the putting green will this grass grow in a hot climate like Nevada with no sprinklers. Will swales be enough. Any advice you have would be helpful if telling me that it is not possible wouldn't hurt my feelings. Maybe this is a new concept not using the old techniques to upkeep your course.
