Coweeta Heritage Center/Talking Rock Farm is actively seeking members to help form an Intentional Community based on voluntary simplicity, healing ourselves and the earth.  Well establish organic garden (1/4 acre), trout pond, saw mill and standing timber to build with, temporary housing available, off-grid (hydro-electric), and much more.  Tucked away in a peaceful and quiet valley in the mountains of Western NC.  About as close to paradise as you can get.  See my host info on IC.org and posts here on permies for more info.  Great opp or the right folks!  Paul

Hello there! I would like to stop by for a visit. I'm looking to build a life of homesteading and permaculture in the mountains of North Carolina. I grew up in NC and love Appalachia. Currently, I'm learning natural building out in Montana, but I would like to move back to NC in the next few years. I'll be visiting my folks in Charlotte June 8-18, so I could stop by any of those days except the 14th and 15th. Anyways, I hope to meet you soon!

-Jeremy

Hello, we have 26 acres on Walnut Mountain, about an hour north of Asheville (10 miles north of Marshall, NC). It is a forested old tobacco farm with 3 creeks, on which my partner David Reed built a few tiny cabins a year ago. We rescued some chickens and pigs this year. We Look forward to connecting too!

Currently We are looking for temporary housing this winter in Asheville as I am due to have a kid in January and want a bathroom where water won't freeze for a home birth!

I'm over in the Nantahala Gorge with an appetite for networking.  Coweeta is a beautiful area.  I'm older and recently retired after 15 years of part-time infrastructure projects on my 6-acre hillside.  Could use some input for brainstorming solutions.  I am willing to consult with Coweeta.

Cheers!

Welcome CK! We live near hot springs, NC. When we feel more comfortable having gatherings...we should have a permie potluck. To get to know each other, share ideas.

Just not at our farm, it's always a hot mess. Haha. We've got about 5 acres. Some flat land with goats, chickens, and Pyrenees pups.
Then we have a few acres of woods and gentle slopes. Plus our garden.

Some things that I'm very much interested in when we speak of community, is starting a seed library and creating  a planting calendar.

What are some of your thoughts on creating community?

Hope you all have a great day.

Thank you, Sena.  I was north of Hot Springs nearly 20 years ago looking at some land for sale (too close to the highway & noisy).  A Permie Potluck sounds delicious!  And I really like your ideas for starting a seed library and planting calendar.  My neighbor is a "Master Gardner" and shared some Cold Mountain Beans a few years back she picked up at a Farm Tour we enjoyed west of Asheville/Candler.  My thoughts for creating community include:

Sharing Abundance (knowledge, skills, abilities, monies, tools & labor)
Problem Solving (how the heck does one garden a steep wooded hillside and how best to exterminate briars, brambles & poison ivy?)
Creative Solutions for elders & youngsters to work together for mutual/community benefit
"Farm Tours" for inspiration & brain-storming

Western North Carolina is heaven (to me) and I think we need more Angels here.

P.S.  Did you know there is a Comfrey Farm/Distributor in Nantahala?
