I don't want to get
apple cores and have this
thread moved to the Cider Press, so I won't take the bait there. Suffice it to say, I find a lot of common sense in evidence-based medicine. Some years ago, I was hospitalized with acute
E. coli. Now, western and holistic medicine are 100% in agreement as to the
prevention of
E. coli, but when it is too late for prevention and the patient is already down with it, then what? What herbal or holistic treatment could have saved me? But under the care of western medicine, a diagnostic test revealed a high white cell count, which in turn indicated that antibiotics were called for, and I was put on erythromycin.
It
should be pointed out that erythromycin exists as a medicine because Merck Corporation employs bioprospectors all over the world, one of whom sent a sample of Philippine Islands forest soil to the Merck labs. I am alive today thanks to Big Pharma. Needless to say, that colors my views when people try to demonize it. The search for
medicinal compounds in nature (in this case, one produced by a soil fungus) -- is this not common sense?
