So, I know this might not be very purist permaculture-y, but I'm working on a job for somebody installing
drip irrigation around orchard
trees on a rough, weedy field. The emitters are in a circle around the tree's dripline. I want to put mulch circles down to protect the emitters and suppress weeds, and I'd like to put something under the mulch that will last longer than
cardboard, since any weeds coming through put the drip line in in danger from ignorant folks with hoes or weed whackers.
Standard landscape fabric is bad: in this situation, the weeds will crawl over the top of the mulch and
root down, and I'll have a huge mess. What kind of fabric would last for a long time in this situation and not let weeds through from the top or bottom while staying permeable?
