I wasn't sure where to put this, so feel free to move it wherever it
should go.
I'm in the middle of building a small rain gutter grow system with 3" pvc pipe, and the traditional method of using five gallon pots on top. Nothing out of the ordinary.
This got me to thinking. Has anyone done this inside their raised
garden bed? For example, I have a bunch of 4' X 8' raised beds about three feet off the ground. I was thinking why not bury three lengths of pipe and tie them all together, then drill the traditional 3" holes for the net pots (say about 24 per garden bed), line the holes with garden fabric, use some type of wick, then bury the whole thing about a foot below the top of the beds.
I'd been thinking of doing a sip type bed with
pond liner, etc, but this would be relatively simple to install in any kind of raised bed.
Of
course a section of the pipe would need to come out of the end of the garden bed so that the shut off float could be accessed easily.
It's brilliant, I know. I might build it. Please show me an example if anyone has seen it or done it before. Or maybe why it wouldn't work well, and I shouldn't try it.
Problems I could see would be it getting out of perfect level (maybe fasten it to the sides of the raised bed frame), dealing with clogs or deteriorated wicks would require digging it out.
