About a month ago I got an email from my bank that my account had a failed login.  It had been a long time since I had logged in so I was rather concerned.  After talking with the bank they assured me it was something to do with an update they had previously done.

I have been ignoring those emails until I got 8 emails on Saturday.  I was planning on calling the bank again.

I thought I would balance my checkbook before I called. I must have had a problem with the login and had to do it a second time.

This is what I want to know:  How did this happen?

I did not get an email at the email address that I use for the bank. I got an email about a failed login at an email address that the bank does not have.

Are you SURE it was actually from your bank?
I get emails from banks I have no accounts in that I have a failed login. I might have a Chase account, I don't, but they are fishing for people who will click their link and log in on their real looking site with their correct credentials, and then they have your account login and password. Call the bank. See if THEY actually sent it. Quite possibly they did NOT, and your login info is being fished for.

That sounds like a scam and I would quickly change my password?
It sounds like someone is trying to get into your account and failing.

We don't bank on line but get all kinds of phone calls that are fishing for just that sort of information so I'm generally suspicious.

Change your password and THEN call the bank.

To add to pearls comment, call the bank from the number on your card or a bank statement not the one on any of the emails.

It was the same email I have been getting for the last month on a daily basis.  I don't think it is a scam since I talked to the bank previously.

You are receiving this email because your online banking username was used and 'Failed' to access online banking on Wed 14 Apr 8:49 AM from IP Address _________
If you believe an unauthorized person has accessed your account please contact your Bank immediately.

Do not reply to this email as it will be returned to an unattended mailbox.

Thank you

I removed the IP address for security.  No phone number or anything to click.  That is about right time when I had the failed login.

What I am trying to figure out is how they used that email address.  The last time I gave it to anyone was when I joined permies in 2016. I only use it for permies. I don't email people with it.

This last year we have been getting similar use of our email, not this one, that I thought came from our credit report. Not scam or spam stuff.

I plan to call the bank before this happened.  If I feel I can call them I might tomorrow.

Before this happened I had thought long and hard about stopping these email by changing to a different email address that I never look at but what if I got something important from them?

I have even thought about changing banks though I really don't have much choice.  I tried the other bank in town and we were not compatible.

Did you call the phone number on the bank site that was in in email? Because if it is a fake site you could have just been talking to scammers if that is the case.

I am just not up to calling the bank.  This is not one of my better days and after getting that email I just don't have it in me to call them.  I doubt that the bank will know how they got that email address unless their IT guy might know. The tellers are mostly older ladies and the lady I talked with the last time was nice and helpful, just didn't know much.
