I was not sure if I should put this in the compost forum or the gardening forum, but I'm starting here. In Maine it is allowed to harvest 50lb of seaweed per day without any sort of license. I figure this would be a good addition to my garden. The question is, since we are well into our gardening season, is there any benefit to putting it on the soil under a layer of mulch? Would it start feeding the plants this year or would I be better off putting it in a compost pile to be added to the garden next year? For the record my attempt at a compost pile last year did not compost much.

The guy from "Maritime Gardener Podcast" does a sort of no-dig gardening, and uses seaweed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbOjNtoHlds

I've seen some videos of him just straight applying it to his beds. Seems to work for him.

Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he's dead, that tiny ad sure bled
