Much like so many of us, I'm a big fan of alternative house building. I do wonder, though, about insects. I'm not personally one of those people who hate everything with 6+ legs. In fact, I quite love almost all the invertebrates I see.
Having said that, I assume there must be more insects in the home when building with more natural materials. How do you deal with them? Do you have a different gauge for judging if it's just a co-occupant or infestation?
If the house is well built this probably would not be an issue.
My house is passive solar built with cedar lumber that was milled on my property.
The house was just a shell, sitting empty while the guy that built it worked on it.
Then we bought it, finished the interior, and have been here since 2013. We have never had problems with bugs except outside.

I don't deal with them because I don't have them.
Cedar is a lovely material for "Alternative homes + invertebrates" as most invertebrates don't like cedar.
I feel that most natural building does not include cedar as a building material so cedar is very alternative.
