I have planned my veggie garden in a part of my garden, with effectively an earth bank running above it on three sides. Two sides are dedicated to access; one on foot, another for vehicles, leaving one remaining side. The veggie garden is (shortly to be) fenced in to keep out the abundance of
rabbits nearby and will be around 160sqm. The area in question sits circa 1m higher than the veggie garden and is approximately 60sqm. It's a bit like a terrace - the below image, I hope, helps make sense of it.
The bank is intentional, making up part of a flood defence system. The ground is very stony and compacted - I've so far planted 1x Quince, but other than that, I mow it. It's a very visible area, so whatever I do here, I must consider the aesthetics.
Water storage is already set up nearby on slightly higher ground, so I do not need to install that. I've considered
chickens or ducks, but it's very exposed for predation, and I'm also not sure about fixing
chickens particularly, to one spot.
Most likely, a few
trees and bushes, and a bench looking back over the garden, will be how I use it. However, I don't want to miss a trick; what would be helpful to have directly next door to, and above, a veggie garden?
Much appreciated.
