Last night I was splitting wood.   I had a bottle of beer with me. I am not a heavy drinker.  I only drank 2/3 of it and left it outside when I had finished with the wood.  As I was stacking the wood today, I noticed the bottle.  It was probably 1/4 filled with drowning honey bees. Of course I emptied the bottle to save a few of them.

Oooooww.  Interesting they were attracted, right?

Had you been in western Oregon, you may have come back to your beer bottle full of slugs. They love beer.

Does "dumb stunt" refer to leaving the bottle out, or to the way that you chose to empty the remaining beer?

bee 1:  "Hey buzz.... you ok to fly?"

bee 2:  "Course I can fly! Whhaadya talkin' bout... hiccup!"

bee 1:  "You know how to get back to the hive, right?"

bee 2: "ahh... "

LOL! Before we got to the bees I was expecting to hear that John whacked the bottle with something and the foam shot up and knocked a turkey vulture right out of the tree!
(good on you for saving the bees. I know I have certain seasons where they are just crazy exploring and we can't even eat on the porch)

Yes I have observed that bees are attracted to over ripe fruit and even more when it starts to ferment and release alcohol fumes.
Honey and bumble bees that get inebriated are  harmless but wasps will take out their frustration at no t having flight control by stinging anything that contacts them.
