Generally a good little video to get the flavor of some aspects of timber framing. Few discrepancies, here and there, in description, history, modality, and material, but not of any great concern, especially to the novice thinking about this craft. Focus was on Anglo European styles of timber architecture, and layout methods.

Amedean, are you considering a timber frame?

Regards,

jay

Yes, I have a few ideas floating around integrating earthship and timber frame designs. I dont like how tacky earthships look and how square many timber frame homes are. Roundwood construction is still a contender I should add but I am still in the conceptual designing stage. After I finalize the direction I plan to take the project I will design it in Solidedge and do FEA for stress analysis and computational fluid dynamic testing to evaluate natural air flow.

Let me know, and I will follow along as a sounding board. I have been building for over 35 years (mainly timber frames.) Look at all "styles" from around the glob, you could get more inspiration. I would also reconsider the grand picture of earth ships in general. Some work really well...most do not after about 25 to 30 years. There are traditional ones, but then again the evolved over millennia. I tend to be a traditionalist in many ways and not to keen on trying to "reinvent the wheel," kinda fellow. You know the old adage, if it "ain't broke...don't fix it." The earthships, both traditional and contemporary, seem to thrive in arid climates, but not in temperate or tropical. Altitude also can have some drying effect as well. Timber frame armature for the internal and roof structure is a grand idea. Earthships built into the sides of a solid rock face work relatively well (hard rock miner style) Have seen a few of those that are real nice but again all in arid regions.

That's enough "musing" for now...Good luck and let me know how it goes.
