Good afternoon! My name is Garrett and I am currently looking for like-minded young people that are interested in a completely self sustainable existence. We would brainstorm, plan and execute. I am currently going through the process of getting a business loan and would love to get some more people involved. Even if you aren't ready to go off the grid, I would love input! I'm thinking about documenting each step and submitting it to the local paper as updates/publicity. My current plans revolve around an organic chicken farm and organic bed and breakfast. It should be a lot of fun and a great opportunity to test out all the things we read and research about! So what do you say? Lets have some fun!

I have a few ideas about what I would like to do with my 1-3 acre plot in the village.
I like the idea of leaving home to help raise the chicken or hosting ppl in a extra bedroom, or going to a "hotel" to work.

Howdy Garrett, be careful submitting some things to the local paper, unless you know for sure that the local politicians are OK with what you are doing .

As lovely and quaint as a Bed & Breakfast sounds, be sure to study local Health Dept rules.
If you are serving any food, the local restaurant rules most likely come into play.

I recently read of a B&B (in Canada) that got shut down.
They were serving on farm, organic, free-range chicken eggs with breakfast.
Turned out that if they served them to paying guests, they had to be purchased through the local Egg Exchange!
Kind of takes the joy out of a farm fresh breakfast if all ingredients must be purchased in town!

Stupid laws exist all over this continent. Beware.

Thanks for the heads up! I plan on getting all the proper certification and clearances. Good thinking though!
