Hi

We're a youngish family who relocated to Orillia from BC about three years ago. In that time, we have realized our dream of property ownership, and come to love the beautiful countryside around us. We currently share a hobby farm with an elderly couple who are no longer able to work their land, and now keep goats, sheep, chickens and ducks. I manage one branch of the Orillia Community Garden, the Barnyard Garden, I also run a CSA and market garden for Simcoe Organics. My husband is an electrician specializing in solar projects working as a project manager for a Barrie solar company. We're looking forward to buying our own farm sometime in the next few years and continuing on the road to self sufficiency. Life is generally really awesome...

But where are all the awesome people?

Despite a ton of volunteering and extra-curriculars, I have yet to meet many like-minded people my age, although, to be fair, LOTS of very amazing seniors I figure there must be some others out there like us, who are as busy as we are and therefore hard to find. We're not looking for property partners, just a sense of community we miss from our time on the West Coast. I've come to realize how important it is to connect with inspiring people from time to time, so figured I might as well try here.

Emily

PS: I will bribe all respondents with fresh goat cheese and possibly pickles.

Hi Emily,
We recently moved to the area as well. And I think we are great people. I love goat cheese and pickles. We are a family of 6 with land, horses, alpacas and all kinds of ducks and chickens. We are slowly trying the permaculture way and would love to meet. I, Gerry, am interested in starting a local permaculture group. My wife, Janet, makes goat milk soap and spins alpaca fiber.

Let me know if you are still looking.

Gerry

Well, this has taken me a very long time to answer...(springtime is busytime)

We're very close to Orillia. Hey, you said you keep ducks, you don't happen to have a Muscovy drake for sale, do you?

HI Emily,

I am not sure if we have a drake. I will check with my wife tonight and let you know.

snakes are really good at eating slugs. And you wouldn't think it, but so are tiny ads:
