Herb Spiral Questions

I just built my first herb Spiral and was looking for some feedback on my construction techniques. I put down a layer of cardboard, then drew out the spiral, dry stacked the biggest stones I could find/move in the spiral shape. I then back filled it with some old hay bales, and covered the whole mess with about six inches of compost/topsoil mix (1:1). It was crusting over pretty good with some recent rain and watering so I put a thin (1/2 inch or so) layer of fresh grass clippings on top. I did soak the whole mess pretty good as I was making it, and there was little to no seeds in the grass clippings.

I have not made one yet Dave but that looks like a good one to me. Which way is south in the picture?
