My favorite song from the greatest punk band ever :

The Minutemen - "Shit from an Old Notebook"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCnXf9RfxfU

"let the products sell themselves
fuck advertising commercial psychology
psychological methods to sell should be destroyed

because of their own blind involvement
in their own conditioned minds

the unit bonded together
morals ideals awareness progress
let yourself be heard"

Thought that might help !

I contend that if one watches that film, and at the end hate 'marketers', one has missed the point.

Decide not to be the marketers' secret weapon.

Reason #4: People really, really don't want to butcher their own meat.

Out of sight, out of mind. As long as people can buy a package of chicken thighs at the supermarket, they are not going to do the work of slaughtering, plucking, cleaning, and cutting chickens from their back yard.

A hundred years ago, when the majority of Americans lived on farms and had a few chickens, a chicken dinner was a big deal and few people ate chicken more than once a week. Nowadays, people in CHFOs (Confined Human Feeding Operations a.k.a. "cities") get their food from CAFOs, and chicken is the lowest cost meat on the menu.

To be fair, chicken was probably always the lowest cost meat on the menu. Especially if one waited until the hen had stopped laying.

In my village chicken is a fairly high-input meat and used more for a guaranteed supply of meat rather than as a cheap meat. The 'cheapest' is from snaring rabbits and hares, or picking up dead birds from the side of the road, or, if they're very lucky, catching a wild boar. Though I guess these days that wild boar isn't that cheap as they all use guns now, which cost money. Well, nearly all. I have seen a few rather large snares around the place, but I don't think it's legal...

Depends on where you are. For a long time in Maine, lobster was the cheapest meat on the menu, hence the rich folks would turn down lobster to have chicken instead.

And the kids of serfs living along the Volga probably whined in unison "what? caviar? not again!!"

Yup, my grandfather used to get paid in lobsters. The current price of lobsters is mostly the cost of diesel. I am not convinced they would be cheaper with sail lobster boats (though the cost would then be in labor). And there is NO room for expansion of that market.

That said, most of the cheapness is in external costs. We can't construct a sustainable system based solely on consideration of those cheap costs. A moose is a lot of meat for a small bit of gun and ammunition. But only about 500 lottery winners get to hunt them here. If you were forced to graze them on your own property, the numbers wouldn't be quite the same.

Thank You Kindly,
Topher
