any suggestions for a useful evergreen plant or tree for a small hedge?

My site has full to partial sun and is seriously lacking in evergreen plants. My first thought was boxwood for a nice formal touch to my very wild landscape but Im sure some of you out there have better ideas. Lookin gfor something no more than 10 feet tall. The only edible evergreen I can think of for my area is korean pine. Perhaps I can keep it trimmed down? They wont be much for pine nuts but will provide seed source if nothing else. Im open to all suggestions and thjank you!

How about a juniper? You can get those in almost any height you desire, from prostrate ones a foot high to bushy ones that can be 10' high. The only downside is that you will have a lot more juniper berries than ways you can think of to use them.

I like the way you think john! I already have a boat load of juniper on my country property that could be transplanted but dont they carry cedar apple rust?

Al, I'm not trying to hijack your train of thought here, but how about a nice biennial that will keep reseeding itself: salsify? I see on the USDA map that it is naturalized in South Dakota, and while it is not an evergreen, it's pretty winter hardy. Mine came through our brutal Georgia winter (we had snow twice....twice!) in great form.
