So, not too long ago I made a hugul bed, I mean it was more like a proto hugul you know, kind of ragtag. It was some logs they had just cut off the tree, layered with spanish moss, then a tiny bit of soil from home depot, I swear it was organic. I would throw about-to-go-bad food into the hugul randomly, never watered, although we get plenty of rain. A couple of months went by and it was making little progress, but around the edges some circular grasses(like stems with saucers on top) started to grow, I was happy. Later, when we were cleaning behind the shed, I came into a pile of vines, easily twice as big as the hugul, and the hugul at that point was looking pretty skimpy and sad, so I piled them on. It took awhile, but most of the nitrogen from the leaves drained out, into the soil I hope, and what was left was like
straw I suppose, and the Saucer grass moved inward, I was elated! Throughout the pile now there were many saucers and soon even some little flower weeds began to grow in it, experiment success. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, I saw some new type of grass growing in the middle of the bed where not even the saucers grew, it was a soft green and kind of looked like hollow tubes, I was pretty pleased with this developement. So, today, I showed my mom this new type of grass in the hugul, and she said "That's onions." Ha! They were actually onions, one of the bad onions I had put into the hugul months ago had turned into two onions, and their shoots were growing out of the hugul, I felt pretty stupid, but also incredibly happy, this is the first time I've ever grown something edible xD. So no matter how unintentionally it happened, I became a gardener today.
