Hello!
I've been furiously wanting to get into farming for the last few years, quite literraly leaving everything behind and dedicating my life to this learning. I've travelled to a handful of innovative organic farms and took a year long apprenticeship.
Let's be honest, farming is quite harsh and the organic certification, way, way less than perfect.
So. I've not been, so far, on a productive farming family who made their lively hood from farming, without using Entrust.
What are your views about that? To me, it seems to be just like the large scale ag, but on a smaller scale, while pretending to be "fighting" the big evil ag. and monsanto. It makes me ponder about "becoming what you fight against".
Any thoughts?
I'm mostly wondering about ways to grow crops, in a suburban area, using spin farming techniques, and not using those pesky pesticides, as I'd like to include a few hives to the fields.
Thanks for your time
Charles

Hello Charles. I don't know what entrust and spin farming are. Could you explain those terms?

Hi Scott,

Yes, Entrust is an organic insecticide commonly used in the organic farming business. It's a "spinosad", which is a bacteria based insecticide which very effectively destroys the nervous system of the bugs it touches. It's half life is roughly 9.3 days.
Spin farming... welll nothing better than a concrete exemple: www.spinfarming.com

Small Plot Intensive Farming
It's a way to farm land, intensively, in the city, in order to make a living off high value crops. It's pretty awesome.

Thanks!
Charles

I believe the answer to both of your questions is a hugelculture. Since finding this site I've made several hugelcultures. The only one I really messed up was my first. I made it wider than it need be and couldn't reach across it. Since then I've had amazing success by mixing as much diversity into a single bed as I could get. I use nothing but the diversity to keep bugs in check.
