I built my first
outhouse and thought it would be fun to share it with the permies community. The reason I built one is the need for a toilet out on the raw
land my wife and I purchased last year. We're building a little one bedroom log home this summer and need a loo for us and other construction workers who will be there periodically for the next 5 or 6 months. And building an outhouse is way cheaper than renting a port-a-potty. Those things are like a hundred bucks a week, and I'm in this outhouse about $250 in materials. I built it in my garage and constructed it so it was in six sections consisting of the base, two walls, door, back, and roof, and a few miscellaneous pieces like the
poop deck (they're not just on ships :) ). It took me about a day and a half to cut and assemble everything, and about 45 minutes to put it all back together out on the farm. We had the guys we've hired to dig the house foundation and septic field dig the hole and drag the assembled outhouse over it. All in all it was a fun little
