Wind results mainly from temperature differences. Hot air rises, cool air falls. If you spin the ellipsoid shape that is the earth, you get coriolis, jet streams, et cetera. Add to that the differential heating that occurs on the day side versus night side, and you get regular diurnal temperature swings, especially in arid climates without much moisture to hold heat through the night.
Weather can be seen as a heat distribution mechanism, taking heat from the equator and moving it around, mostly pole-ward, so that the oceans around the planet's middle don't boil.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
