Hi Folks,
I have done a bit of research on this one but can't seem to nail it down. Collected this specimen today on an old rotting bail of hay.  The cap is about 5 inches and it almost looks gelatenous and has the texture of cooked pasta or something like that. I live in the woods of new hampshire if that helps. This is one of the larger mushroom specimens I have found as far as round caps go.

Thank you all so much for the replies. I was able to sample the mushroom and it tasted OK. The texture was a little slimy and not a lot of flavor. The suggestion to dry them and use in soups/stews is probably a good one.

Hi,
I am new to foraging mushrooms, about 1 year in. I have found a few of these mushrooms and based on my book and online research it appears to be a king bolete, although this one is probably not fully grown. It has the pores on the underside, the cap is brown, it doesn't stain blue, although if it is bruised the pores turn a little brown. Any help would be appreciated on this.

Thanks Greg, That was helpful. I sliced it up and am dehydrating it and will experiment with some tea as it seems too mature for any kind of culinary delight.

Hi Folks,
I am familliar with chicken of the woods, have only ever found the sulpures (sp..) type. I found this growing on a tree stump, it has all of the characteristics of a chicken (cincinnatus, white pore), except it is very dark orange and the edges are not white. The top is not quite as soft as a chicken I have harvested before. It smells like a chicken and I know there really aren't any look alikes in my area (southern new hampshire). I have looked online and not been able to find even one image that is a match for this. In an abundance of caution, I am reaching out to see if any of the experts can help identify this. It grew on top of a stump in a similar pattern as other chickens I have harvested.
