Heyoo! My partner and I, Jessica, are located about 15 miles West of Boston in Waltham. We are always looking to meet like-minded people into permaculture around our way (tough to come by!). If anyone lives in the area and would like to share ideas or anything let us know! We're currently saving for a house but it's just plain tough right now. We're both mid-20's, not that should matter much. We would love to even throw the idea around of buying a place with another couple to farm on or something, anything to get away from the craziness!

Hi Michael (and an extended hello to your partner Jessica),

It seems to be pretty hard finding like-minded people in and around the Boston area. I live near Framingham and there are very few (if any) outlets for thoughts and discussion. I'm also in my mid 20's, and going to school full time. I've been trying to find a good PDC design course to take this summer...just need to make a decision. In any case, I hope all is well with you. I was just in Waltham the other day shopping at a couple of different Indian markets, and I stumbled across a really, really tasty sushi restaurant.

From what I've seen at the other end of the state (10 minutes from NY state), the default Massumption appears to be that Western Massachusetts starts at the west bank of the Charles river; Bahston is right at the center of the state, evidently.

My family and I are trying to find a homesteading or farming opportunity in Central Mass.. or anywhere within 1 hour of Worcester, MA. However, the closer to Worcester the better. We are interested in either an apprenticeship or partnership. We have 2 small children. Let me know if any of you have ideas for us? Thanks.

Hi!
We're in SE MA, in Medway. We're just starting our homestead, We have owned it one year this weekend. It's right on Main st, so it's not "ideal" but I don't think anything is when the price is right. We wanted not to be too far from My husbands work so we chose a less rural location. It's definitely a work in progress and may continue to be for many years to come. Unquestionably a labor of love!

http://www.facebook.com/KingFarmstead I think we made the page permies.

We are not in Mass, but are not too far away. We have a small farm in southern Rhode Island. We will be hosting three week long plant identification/permaculture workshops this summer. We'd be happy to have a visit, and if you'd be interested in the workshops, let me know at amberafc@gmail.com.

They will be June 24th to July 1st, July 29th to August 5th, and August 19th to August 24th.

I live in Boston and work in Waltham!

I'm interested in permaculture, but more interested in ecobuilding - cob in particular. I've been trying to find a "demo house" to go check out in our area. I might have to take a trek out to western MA at some point to do so because I can find exactly 0 information on anything nearer to Boston in the way of natural building.

I'm still in the beginning stages of exploring ecovillages and places of the sort. I love the idea, but somehow I'm more interested in starting something than hopping into an existing community effort. (Yes, I know that's surely the tougher way to go.) I've been looking into land prices to get something going and build my own little cob cottage, but I nor my girl make anything close to what it'd take to buy land up here. Furthermore, I'm attracted to the idea of a warmer climate and a year-round growing season.

So I guess I'm mostly in the exploratory stages, trying to find something in place and functional that I can peek my head into and ask some questions about, with a focus on the building and home design part of all this. Does ecobuilding resonate with you, or have you looked into it much?

Also mid-20's, btw, the both of us!

Hey there - my husband, two kiddos and I live on the Cape! pretty eastern... but we're looking at hopefully buying land soon up in NH or ME, there is no. way. we would ever be able to afford anything here that we could do what we wanted with. We're hoping to find the perfect place to have a little homestead, garden, fruit trees, chickens, nice little cob/strawbale/cordwood/recycled material house, maybe a cow someday... We've always wanted to live with others to help each other out. It's nice to know there are some others in this area that are interested in similar ways of living. We are also interested in looking into joining with another person/couple/family to purchase land, it could be an economical way of everyone getting what they want and need! I'm mid-20s, husband mid 30s, and like you said, not that it matters, but it's nice to know where people might be at in life. Feel free to get in touch!

Not in Boston, but SE CT. We have some small hugelk. and humanure projects going. Also some bamboo plantings that I hope take. Woodstove is main heatsource. Only have 1/4 acre but border 2 acre forest/park/canoe launch. I have future plans for guerilla gardening and wood deadfall gathering. Let me know if any fellow travelers are passing thru. This site is great! Repeated google searches always seemed to lead to permies. Hence I joined.

Hi all! I'm part of small group of 4 on the Cambridge/Somerville border (Porter Square) just starting a tiny permaculture setup in and around our house this spring (maybe 400 sq ft of plants total, thinking about how to take over the steeply pitched roof if we can!). We're looking for one more housemate right now, and we're looking to expand our community to 10-12 people in August and move somewhere nearby with at least a modest amount of yard space. The only real restriction is that it be w/in a 20-30 minute commute (bike or public transit) of Harvard's campus. With that large a group we could afford a large place. Renting is probably most realistic this close to August, but long term we'd love to buy (again, that many people means lots of buying power).

If anyone is interested in joining us now, or in August, or just wants to hang out, see our garden, or would like our free labor to help out in your garden (we always like to meet new people and learn from their experience!) please email or call me! I'm excited to find this forum and see a few likeminded people in the area. I'll probably be in touch with some of you locals who have posted already. I know some people in the NYC/Brooklyn/Queens permaculture scene which is really thriving, it'd be great if we can build similar energy here near Boston/Cambridge.

Also, we're going to start some guerilla gardening around Somerville in late April! If anyone would like to join please email me, the bigger a pool of seeds, plants, and labor we have the more we can do. We've ID'ed several locations just begging for some vegetables.

And lastly, I'm organizing a field trip out to the Sirius Community in May or June (first weekend of the month when they have a work exchange). If anyone would like to join that just let me know! here's a link: http://siriuscommunity.wordpress.com/visit-sirius/community-experience-weekend/. They've got a really great intentional community focused on spirituality and permaculture, should be a great time with lots of wisdom to learn from.

Green love

I am moving to RI with husband, 2 kids and 4 chickens middle of August. I am trying to find chicken friendly neighborhood and landlord in RI or over the border in MA. Any suggestions would be a big help. Also looking to get aquainted with permaculture minded persons. Thanks in advance.

We'd love to meet you. Southern RI has a lot to offer, in terms of chicken friendliness and permaculture literacy. The state is so small that you aren't very far from any of it though. I do have a friend who is a landlord here who would be great if she has any open properties.

Keep in touch!

Hi Matu, that would be a big help. How can I get in touch with your landlord friend? Thanks.

Michael Brown and Jessica! If you're still into sharing ideas, I'm about 30 mins west of you. I love permaculture design. I have a good amount of land and a good amount of permaculture projects going on. Hugelkultur, food forests, swales and berms, horses, chickens, chicken coops, annual gardens, tree-planting, cold frames, rain barrels and irrigation etc. I'm on facebook...Harry Greene with the rock statue under some trees as a cover photo.

Best,

Harry
