I'm having fun listening to the podcast right now, the one on POTOATO FIELD, and KALE, and stuff...so funny

agree that we need those threads for each species..too bad we couldn't get them alphabetically also so that they would be easy to find..(duh like that will happen).

I too love the fact that when you plant potatoes, you always have potatoes unless you are a lot more thorough than I am.

As for the KALE..you found someone who grew up with their favorite vegetables as a child being spinach and beets..so I'm fairly fond of Kale..but I agree, you gotta figure out how to cook it and not wait until it is a year old to pick it..but a Kale thread might not be a bad idea.

Thyme, also grows really well over the septic TANK..not the drainfield but the tank..I have had it there for 10 years since our housefire..so give it a try..sandy, well drained..hot.

sorry my question was so BROAD...tee hee..we'll get a thread going for each thing..I'm HAPPY..teehee.. love you guys.

but some of the perennial vegetables I haven't tried I would love to hear about what people have coming on ..how they use them..yes..get those threads going folks..maybe some threads on Apios, cammass, I should do one on lambsquarters I LOVE THIS STUFF....trying good king henry this year (maybe same thing only different??)

Keep the podcasts coming..grinned through the entire thing this time..brenda

I also do my "composting" like you mentioned that Ruth Stout did, spreading it out on the garden rather than in a compost pile..it works well for me but sometimes it is kinda messy. If it is too messy, you can grab a few weeds to throw on top to hide the messy stuff..

I felt that the compost pile wasted a lot of the nutrients as they would leach out under the pile, and I tried a tumbler and that too didn't work for me either..but I keep my scraps in a bucket and shred my paper and stuff and toss it in a new place in the garden all year long..and I also will toss in weeds, bark, etc..

I also find it is a heck of a lot less work.

The areas really close to the house have super rich soil, cause when we get lazy we throw it closer to the house..esp in the winter when it is too cold to walk to the farthest areas of the garden.

I do even the coffee grounds, tea bags ..coffee filters..old pizza crusts..etc..but also we tend to have some wild animals that do recycle some things by the next few days..and that doesn't bother us much either..it's really kinda cute to see the opossum out there eating the pizza crust just like people..but sometimes it can be annoying to have the critters too..if so, throw it farther from the house..

We should throw him a surprise party. It will cheer him up. We can use this tiny ad:
