There aer some really fascinating things in this master class, the idea that food is information as well as or even more than substance; that we can photosynthesize (this is according to published studies, he says), since our bodies take in a certain amount of plant chloroplasts into our body's biome; that we can receive energy from water, and even from the "quantum vacuum."  The piece about food as information rings true to me; it's a part of a visceral desire to grow my own food--to understand, to receive a knowing of it in some more-than-verbal way.

At the least I think there's a great deal to be said in letting go of the old-model idea that food is solely fuel; that really rings true to me.

Fukuoka gets at this in a way in the discussion of the non-discriminating mind--we think we want some external object to make us happy, and spend a lot of energy to get it, and the last state of us is worse than the first.  He talks about the value of really tasting the flavors of nature themselves, not just heaping on spices.  He puts it better than my quote here, but it's fascinating.
