I am curious to know if there is a natural/herbal abortion option as opposed to the medically induced option.
Cheers

Susun Weed is one of the few herbalists I've read who actually discusses many different abortifaciant herbs in her book "Wise Woman Herbal for the CHildbearing Year". A few options were discussed in older 1970s versions of "Our Bodies Ourselves" but I don't know if those sections were included in the newer versions of the book. The biggest problem is that most of these herbs have no study to back them up, just different reports of women's experiences. This is knowledge that's hard to come by for sure.

It was years ago that I was on a herb website and this same question was asked. Please, please, please don't take any concoction that any anonymous person sends to you. You do realize that this is a very hot button topic and someone may wish to do you harm, right? Someone 'kind' and 'understanding' may send you info that could be deadly.

Women in my grandmother's generation died from taking these brews. I know this because my mother (the oldest in her family) told me of my grandmother's depression when another friend died this sad way.

Please see a doctor if you're late.

Wild Carrot A.K.A. Queen Anne's Lace seeds.

I've found a few great zines on this topic but I have yet to know of anyone personally try this.

Many hallucinogenic plants/extractions cause uterus contractions that WILL abort. Morning glory seeds, wood rose seeds, and ergot fungus the most common.

Ergot fungus is the ancient witches one. lots of history on that one, tho lots was lost when they burned the hags.
No idea if LSD would work, never heard of it happening with the drug, so prob a toxin in the fungus.

I have also heard cotton root in small doses eases birth pains, and large doses aborts. haven't seen that anywhere else but one site tho.

the gossypol from cottonseed oil is a male birth control med. found out on accident in china. huge piles of it outside every cottonseed oil gin now.....

http://www.sisterzeus.com/herbalcontraception.html
There is a link at the top of this page for herbal abortants... You just have to click on the candle on each page before you can read anything. I found the info quite interesting when I came across it researching natural contraceptives (which the link actually connects to)

Pennyroyal oil is the most commonly named one. The problem is that many herbal abortifacients must be taken by the mother to affect the fetus/baby/fertilized egg/whatever you want to call it. And herbs always affect the mother. Abortions have enough affects on the mother without having to also deal with vomiting and other nasty side-effects. A medical D&C is safe, quick, sure and safe. And safe. Did I mention safe?

If you must abort via herbal methods, I reccommend Hygieia: A Woman's Herbal http://www.amazon.com/Hygieia-Womans-Jeannine-Parvati-Baker/dp/0913512540/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1337521653&sr=1-1-spell . It describes one woman's journey in detail. Lay out all your options and try the least harmful ones first, namely pennyroyal and tansy, and move on to the others. Take a few days off to do nothing but concentrate on this task; body and mind must be aligned or you'll barf up anything you try to drink if you're the tiniest bit conflicted.

Today's IUDs are the most safe, most effective, long-term contraceptive there is and they can be placed or removed in just one trip. They're overwhelmingly what most OB/GYNs use.

I know a lot about this subject.

Do not EVER use pennyroyal essential oil internally! It is poisonous! It could be applied topically if diluted in a carrier oil and i know some who have used it this way to induce miscarriage.

If you decide to herbally abort I would look at Susun Weed's recipe. There are definitely concerns with herbal abortions and it is particularly an issue when women are badly educated on the subject, are fearful/anxious of their situation, are treating themselves in isolation (which will breed fear and anxiety and thus a tendency to overdose!), and are unsure about their decision.

There have been many safely done, effective herbal abortions. It is not how it is often portrayed by ignorant people or books or movies.

If you don't have someone to walk you through it/support you i recommend getting a d&c

The biggest factor in terms of success is timing. You should always know when you should bleed next. Herbs are most effective when used right when you are supposed to menstruate or maybe within the time frame of a week. They can be done later, but it's significantly harder/more stressful.

Queen Anne's Lace (Daucus carota) is primarily an implantation inhibitor used during fertile times/after sex.

Acupuncture is also effective at encouraging menstruation.

Or you could see a professional doctor!!!
D&C, and it's done.

Sometimes you need to see a doctor.

a d&c is a great option if you can access/afford it. myself, i opt for herbs.

for more info i also recommend sisterzeus.com, there is also a listserve (i think you can access it thru sisterzeus), and there are several zines on the topic. Susun Weed's website likely has information and there is also a forum to ask questions on.

Me and my children will raise your child, and help all we can, if you decide not to abort. 9 months may seem like an eternity, but it is a drop of water in the sea, compared to eternity.
