I had this idea to
reuse the 2-3 gallon pots after transplanting
trees as worm tube substitute. I wanted to achieve two things - more efficient way to deal with kitchen scraps than just tossing onto
compost pile and as a way to get soil prepped for later transplanting of next years trees and shrubs. So I took pot and cut some holes in sides and bottom , buried it up to the rim in hole I will later transplant to , and added
straw and filled with kitchen scraps . I wll say that things break down rather quickly , but I am not seeing any worm activity pulling the material out into soil . Has anyone tried anything similar and seen better results?
So far , a barrel composter or using scraps under sheet mulch seems more logical.
