Salutations!
I have never pressure canned anything but I want to. I mean, cornbread just isn't right without creamed corn. I picked up an All-American pressure canner from a thrift store years ago. It is old and missing the weights, possibly other parts too. My questions are:

Is it salvageable as a pressure canner?
What all is missing?
Can I replace the old or missing components and use it as is, or does it need to be recertified?
The lip seal looks ok but should it be polished or otherwise repaired somehow?
And finally, is it worth the cost and work?

Thanks in advance!

The people at All American Canner are really nice and super helpful.

when I bought mine used, I contacted them, mainly for the manual. I bought some other parts I just don't remember what.

Wow, what a great find...and the price!!! I agree with Anne that you should reach out to All-American and get the manual. You'll need the weighted gauge which you can get from them. You should also get the pressure gauge checked - in the US we have county agriculture extension offices, I don't know if Canada does but if they do, they should be able to check your gauge or at least tell you where to go to get it done.

The All-American is a metal to metal seal and the metal needs to oiled. I use a little olive oil on a rag but you can also use a little petroleum jelly. The rims don't look like they have gouges in them that would cause it not to seal. It looks like it just needs to be oiled.

I think it's totally worth it to get this in working order. It will cost very little compared to a new one.

Great info!

I will definitely be reaching out to All-American for the manual and parts. I don't know about extension offices but I do know a few air tool suppliers that could test the gauge. I'll do this and post again when I've made progress.

Thanks Anne and Angi!
