The very first question about a tax sale lot is whether or not there is a right of redemption period in your state, and if there is, when does it expire? You can get some great deals that way, but if you improve it and the previous owner redeems it, you lose the time and effort and money you put into it. (Except, generally, the redeeming owner has to buy out whatever you paid for the lot and some interest.)

where are you in MIchigan?? I'm in the ring area of the left hand..so I'm curious..

are you ON the land now?? or is this a move coming up. We have some darned cold weather forcast soon so I guess you'll find out how ready you are if you move on it now..but there is winter coming on.

I think some hay bales for insulation might be helpful ..but they are really expensive this year..so maybe you can find some SPOILED hay bales to use..that aren't fit for feed but are still warm.

you might use your cordwood as a windbreak, so think about pilinig it on the north and west as high as you can near your shelter..but not so close as to invite rodents..space a couple of feet there.

I would include a cell phone if you can afford it as you might have an emergency and need help, and if you have a vehicle or a bicycle and a bike lock to a tree..and maybe some snowshoes or cross country skis.

have extra blankets for warmth and extra clothing in case they get wet..are there close neighbors, are you safe..maybe a gun?

If you are in a bear area,, you gotta think about them in spring and fall but they'll be asleep for winter...but other critters can get into food so metal lockable..also be aware of theives of the human kind.

a lot of people have gone to stealing lately cause of the food and other shortages..and high unempl rate..several of our neighbors have had entire trailer loads of hay stolen, and other people have had all of ther laid up food stolen..so please consider that..don't advertise your situation where it can be taken advantage of..so try to keep out of sight of roads with your campsite.
