When I was 19 I found the El Paso
Solar Energy Association in the phone book on accident, but had an interest so started attending their monthly meetings. Soon I was voted onto the Board of Directors, became Secretary, and Newsletter Editor. We hosted workshops, classes and events, had monthly speakers at meetings, and some of the members were teachers of different alternative energy topics as well. In short, I learned a lot! I took this knowledge and moved away to Nebraska, designing and building a passive
solar straw bale house. Later, we sold it when we moved back to El Paso. It was then that I started writing... and today I have a number of
books on different solar subjects, including one on passive solar home design for the owner-builder.
We did it; and I'm certain you can too! I wrote a book specifically for owner-builders and newbies who need a primer on solar home design, and the most important features of what a passive solar home needs (such as solar orientation, thermal mass and insulation, proper overhangs, etc.). If you click the link below to my book, you can click on the "Look Inside" on the book cover image, and check it out for yourself (along with some free reading). Here is the title and link... and if you have Kindle Unlimited, sometimes you can download the book for free.
