Hello! New to the forum! My husband and I started homesteading 2 years ago alongside my parents by moving to North Idaho. We have loved every second of this life but we are coming to realize that maybe north Idaho isn't the best place for us. Our biggest drawback is the growing season, we are going into our third summer here, and the season just doesn't seem long enough to grow the amount of food that we want to grow. so now were considering going south. I would love some input on what places to consider.

Our biggest criteria are:
#1 We want to grow most of our own food (So a good growing season is a must)
#2 we want to homeschool our two kids (without jumping through a bunch of hoops)
#3 We want to be able to use composting toilets (Don't want to install a septic when we build a house)

Hi Megan;
I live just east of you in western MT.  Some years it seems the growing season just gets started and then your getting frost warnings!
The state of Idaho is the most friendly to all of your criteria.
North Idaho has colder temps but plenty of water.
Central Idaho is warmer but dryer.  Southern Idaho is very warm with water being scarce.
I would suggest you look in the Lewiston ID area.
