So I just started my affiliate program. I'm curious, there are a list of several links which according to the description all do the same thing, but there is a final link at the bottom that looks quite different with a description that says "this link will direct to PayPal with your affiliate information". In what case would I choose one over the other?

To answer your question:  can you give me a link to a digital market product you would like to use as an example?

Hey Riley!  Thanks for posting.  Let's see . . .

Are you talking about a specific product?

Is it possible for you to post a screenshot of what you're looking at?

Let's see if I can help.

It looks like you have the affiliate code of 521. You can tag that onto any sales thread, and if anyone purchases with that link, you'll get an affiliate percentage.

For example, say you wanted to promote the PDC+ATC video. That link starts out as:

https://permies.com/wiki/65386/hours-video-Permaculture-Design-Technology

You then add in your affiliate number in there, right after the thread number, like this:

https://permies.com/wiki/65386f521/hours-video-Permaculture-Design-Technology

note how the number in the url changed from 65386 to 65386f521. That f521 is important, because it shows that it's an affiliate link.

If someone clicks that link, and then wanders around permies, and buys something else, you'll still get a kickback. There's been a few times I've gotten notified of an affiliate purchase for something I never promoted. Someone followed one of my links and then bought something else, and I got paid. Score!

Honestly, I think if you stuck your affiliate number on any random thread (like this one turning from https://permies.com/t/189649/Affiliate-Link to https://permies.com/t/189649f521/Affiliate-Link), and someone follows it and buys something, you'd get affiliate money. Note, I haven't tested this, though. But I think it would work.

You can also add trackers to your affiliate code through your affiliate console (https://permies.com/forums/affiliate/list#console). These are handy if you want to advertise a link here permies, as well as on facebook, and want to know which links were more successful. I honestly haven't played around much with trackers, though. So if you want help with those, we'll have to call in someone more knowledgeable than I am!. And if you

Hey guys, sorry for the confusion but it seems maybe I need to clarify.

I'm asking how the link i put a red rectangle around at the bottom of this screenshot is different than the others and what reason someone might choose to use it over the links listed prior to it.

Good question. If I understand correctly, the one in your red box is like a purchase link, that goes straight to paypal "check-out," whereas the other 4 all go to the product thread on permies.

Is that helpful?

Ah! That =buywithpaypal&topic_id=65386&f=521 link is the one that will directly lead a person to buying the object.

Go ahead and click https://permies.com/jforum?module=paidTopic&action=buyWithPaypal&topic_id=65386&f=521. You'll see that it takes you directly to buying the 177 hours of PDC+ATC

These kind of links are handy if you have a website or blog and want to sell the thing on your page. You could embed it in a shiny buy button, like this:

Or you could make it a link like this:

Click HERE to buy 177 hours of permaculture education!

Then, when people click the shiny button, or the fancy link, they'll instantly be taken to paypal to buy it (rather than taken to the permies thread about the 177 hours of PDC)
