Youtube is making some big changes to the partner program 2022-23

Today, we introduce the next chapter in rewarding creativity on our platform, no matter what that looks like. We’re announcing more ways for creators to become partners, new ways to make money with Shorts, and a reimagining of how the music industry and creators work together.



Basically, it is focusing on making it easier for people who create short content - less than one min vertical videos - to enter the partner programme



They are also putting more emphasis on fan thanks.  Making it easier that if a fan likes what they see, they can donate directly to the creator via different kinds of thanks.  

These will probably roll out over the next 6 months or so, depending on where in the world the creator is.

It sounds like a great program, are there any downsides to such a program?

They haven't made the changes yet.  That's something to expect next year.

But working with youtube is like any other big site.  They have their terms of service and inconsistently enforce them.  If one can live with that, then they are an excellent way to earn some cash - albeit a lot more work than getting a regular job.
