Hi friends!
I realized I didn’t make an introductory post before I started posting. To be fair, it took me a while to find the right place to put it.
I’m in Colorado, in southeast Aurora, so right on the edge of the Great Plains. Our place is in the ‘burbs, with an HOA (yes I know, but that has to do with accessibility to my husband’s workplace), but it is a lovely woodsy community. I’m blessed with a scant quarter-acre plot that includes a number of ponderosa pines, a standard-size
apple tree, and a couple of standard plum
trees that probably were supposed to be ornamental, but do give me some fruit.
It also came with some veggie beds that need replacing (I am short, I cannot reach across a 4’ bed and get to the back, plus they are old and falling apart), a sad blackberry plant that I’ve been nursing back to health, and only a partial
fence, which means the
deer love our property. At least it’s fun to watch them, but I’ve had to aggressively cover my vegetable garden. We’re in a slight bowl anyway given the placement of our neighbors, so fencing them out would be difficult at best.
We put in some currants last year, and I’ve got garlic buried under the snow in a couple of places. I have asparagus hopefully germinating in my seed starting setup in the basement. Fingers crossed. I know they’re not a
project for a novice seed starter but why the heck not.
I’m looking forward to seeing what
permaculture techniques and philosophy I can apply to suburban living, with the gifts and restrictions we have!
