Hello!

We have a small (.87 acre) permaculture homestead in Western NC with an extra room. We are located next to Earthaven Ecovillage but not within the village. My husband is 67 and recently had an injury he's recovering from, I'm 55 and work 4 days away from the homestead. We have a 21 yr old daughter who lives here as well. We are looking for a work exchange to help around our homestead in the similar vein as wwoofing- 20-24 hours a week for the room & board, potentially a small stipend. We are ominvores, we source a majority of our food from local organic sources if we don't raise or grow it ourselves. We have established garden beds, chickens, one LGD and one indoor cat. We can't take on someone with a pet. We have a large studio space with an art studio, textile studio and kitchen studio. We are in walking distance to Earthaven (10 min walk to the village center) after completing a tour with the village and signing a release there are opportunities to connect socially with the village.) We are surrounded by forest, there are creeks and trails. We are not "off grid" and have fairly reliable internet. Our home is passive solar with a large attached greenhouse. The room we have available is large, light filled room that is furnished and has a loft for sleeping or storage. We need help with gardening and continuing implementation of our permaculture design. We have skills in poultry care & butchery, whole animal butchery, smoking brining, charcuterie, cheese making, all varieties of food preservation (canning, fermenting, dehydrating) some herbalism and foraging skills, we also cultivate mushrooms for our own use. My husband works part time at a local greenhouse so we have access to many plant friends to add to our permaculture plan.

Hi Tricia, I hope you and yours are doing well and that your husband is recovering from his injury. I am a 33 year old woman, looking to explore the WNC area and connect with like-minded people in the hopes of establishing my own permaculture/natural building project of my own once certain resources line up for me this coming Winter 2023.  I have been in residential construction and landscaping/perennial gardening (family business!) since a kid, but fell in love with natural building and permaculture  10 years ago while living in the intentional communities of The Possibility Alliance in Missouri and Jubilee Partners in Georgia. I haveńt looked back since  I am a very independent worker and need little to no direction when it comes to animal and garden tending, as well as doing repairs on building, etc… I am interested in exploring a work exchange with you and your family for this growing season and possibly beyond if the fit is right.  My email is crippens1@yahoo.com, or let me know through email if you prefer to facetime/zoom.  I am currently in Chapel Hill, NC and could come up to visit without trouble.  Happy Spring, Sara Grace
