I had forgotten to take a flower pot out of a half used bag of organic potting mix last summer. It's been inside my house in a visible spotand the bag has not "moved" to my knowledge. I opened it today and found this weirdness inside. The soil also has some of this kind of growth throughout the top layer and it kind of holds it together in a clump. I rubbed a bit off the pot to see what happened and it almost had a fungus/ cobweb feel. Any idea what this is?

I've never seen anything like it. I would either take a sample if not the whole pot and bag to the Ag Ext. Office and ask if they could help or contact the Vendor and send them that pick and of the growth down inside the bag and ask them. I also wouldn't use it until I found out even though it might be harmless.
Does the bag mention any additives?
Have you noticed it or any affect to any of the places you have used it?

Ugh. Well, that was what I was thinking it looked like, but it is  kind of why I mentioned it had been in view and hadn't "moved"- it's been here for a while and I would expect eggs to do something or there to be evidence of what was laying them (it would be more than one insect/critter since there is a lot of this material in the bag.

I'm icked out but also curious...

Yeah I am not going to use it until I know it is safe. I have had no issues with other plants! I occasionally have gotten a little mushroom sprouting up or a few fungus gnats but nothing unusual for houseplants. it' been in my eyesite for the whole time I have had it so I'd have notice things crawling out (blargh). And I don't even think my county has an Ag Ext. Office...

Oh goodness, I didn't even think Eggs!!! That's scarier. That's a lot if it is. And how they are peeling off... I blew it up 500%

Is that a critter? Get a magnifying glass and inspect if you have 1.  you could also take a sheet of paper or material and spread it out so there is ample room. Put some soil on it and observe. That way its easier to see something small crawling away on ..like a clean white or light colored surface.
