I just found a bunch of turkey tail has developed on the corpse of an apricot tree that was waiting for chipping.
I'm moving in a couple of weeks and we will have to take down several large maple
trees this winter. I hope to do shiitake and lions mane on some of their logs. (my first tries on log
mushrooms) I'll be buying inoculation spawn for this.
Since I've been gifted with these turkey tails, I'd love to try and spread some of them to some logs as well. ( many
should be available)
We are going to try and get the trees cut down in late fall or winter, with inoculation to happen in the very early spring and I'm wondering how to best to use my found mushrooms for inoculation.
Do I let them dry out and then freeze them and use them ground up to inoculate? Cut slits into the logs and stuff the bits in?
This is just a surprise bonus find that feels very serendipitous so I'd welcome any suggestions on ways to try carrying them over to our new place.
