I am posting on behalf of friends who have
land and are interested in finding a talented natural builder to lead the design and build of a single structure. The guiding vision is a small PNW temple nestled in the woods for personal and collective healing--i.e., a space to host yoga, meditation sessions, men's and women's and all gender's circles.
Location
- Beautiful PNW setting in wooded area roughly 45 minutes from downtown Portland
- Land had existing infrastructure and quality, habitable dwellings
Design criteria
- Circular
- Large
enough to comfortably hold gatherings of roughly 15 people with room to stretch (I'm not sure but I'm guessing roughly 24ft in diameter)
- Highly functional across 4 seasons (heating source for the fall/winter/early spring seasons; good venting and natural cooling for summer)
- Fresh air ventilation accounted for enabling groups groups to commune for extended periods while maintaining low
CO2 and high oxygen levels
- Aesthetically beautiful
- Using natural and earthen materials--exact type TBD by builder
Compensation
- Room and board could be provided for the duration of the
project (to help keep $ costs down, this is one of the greatest assets they can provide)
- Depending on scope and hours/per week, additional financial compensation would be provided. Prior to start, discussion of the project budget and mutual needs would need to be determined to ensure good reciprocity.
Qualifications
- Sufficient natural building
experience to lead a project of this scope. This could be your largest, most ambitious project ever, but some portfolio of quality work would need to be seen
- Excellent communication skills to understand and translate a vision, and to navigate conversations about moving the project forward within budget in a cohesive, harmonious fashion.
- Socially skilled and adept enough to coordinate with periodic (not always reliable
) volunteers helping move the project forward
- Chill and responsible enough to live in a small co-housing/ housemate setting (currently features 3 adults, a large main house, a couple yurt homes).
- Strong work ethic, and positive can-do attitude
- Physically able to put in extended hours of physical labor
Please share this with others, and if you are interested, please contact me and I can provide additional details.
Thanks,
Dave
