As a child, one of my most frequent nightmares was of running along the footpath which was full of elongated oval holes. I never fell down one so I don't know why it seemed so scary.
Other frequent nightmares (although none recently) are of being chased by a wild animal. One I still remember was when I was chased by a panther (not a common animal to be found in Britain). I could hear its footsteps getting closer and even after I reached the house and slammed the door I could still hear it chasing after me. As I gradually woke properly I realised it was my heart beating. In a similar vein, once it was a bear chasing me (again, not many roaming the streets here, as a rule). When I opened my eyes in the relatively dark room, I saw it in the corner. Coming fully awake, it was clothes hanging on the back of the bedroom door.
Even though it's around 10 years since I retired, I still get dreams about work - usually where I've forgotten to complete an essential part of a
project. Oh, the relief when I wake up.
